Time and Familiarity

June 14, 2013

A lovely day yesterday filming for the Albert Drive Project documentary, re-creating my walks along the drive with my map looking for people’s houses. This time with Abigail following me with a camera. It was a jolly experience. As I wasn’t actually going to meet someone I had time to observe in other ways and started to think of the value of time and of familiarity and what that can bring. People were friendly and engaging, smiling and waving knowingly as we walked by and I felt that we were all enjoying this together.

I then spent time in ‘Everybody’s House’ and encountered the same warm spirit, people enjoying meeting each other, and both deep stories and light stories were shared within these convivial moments. And I, unexpectedly, recorded a living room dancer.

There was also the opportunity to meet with Nic in The Victoria Allotments. Behind that green door I encountered another busy full world, of people and plants, and sheds, and noticeboards and bunting.

So my thoughts are of the necessity for and richness of both inside and outside worlds, introverted worlds and extroverted worlds, the diversity of worlds living side by side, and the importance of time to get to know and to become familiar with.
